HOUSTON– Striking examples of painting, photography,
printmaking and digital prints will be on display at
the First Light Third Annual Exhibition, a collection
of art by students of Houston Community College-Southwest,
beginning June 6, 2004 in the lobby of One Allen Center
in downtown Houston.
The free exhibit runs from June 6 through July 2. An
opening celebration, featuring live entertainment and
refreshments, takes place from 6 to 8 p.m., Friday,
June 11 at One Allen Center.
“First Light” is an astronomical reference
to the birth of the universe. The show uses the name
“First Light” because it is the first exhibition
for HCC-SW art students in a professional setting.
The works have been culled from students of such notable
artists as Joan Laughlin, Richard Lubben, Cynthia Millis,
Gwendolyn Plunkett, Pat Porcynaluk, Margo Reese and
Walter Wagner of the HCC-SW Art Department. The show’s
sponsor is Steven Potter, a full-time faculty member
of HCC-SW’s Art Department.
The works on display are for sale. In the past two
years, thousands of people have toured the exhibit,
with many visitors purchasing an item or more for themselves.
One Allen Center is at 500 Dallas Street. For more
information, please contact Steven Potter at (713) 718-7700.
