HCC SOUTHWEST ART DEPARTMENT PRESENTS Mash, Splash, Bite, and Light: A Retrospective of Work by Continuing Education Artists

HOUSTON- Mash, Splash, Bite, and Light, a retrospective exhibit featuring the Houston Community College Southwest Art Department's Continuing Education Students will open with a public reception on Thursday, October 14 from 6:00 to 7:30 pm. The event takes place in the Southwest College Annex Gallery located at 13645 Murphy Road, Suite 250, Stafford. The exhibit ends Friday, November 5. The exhibit is free, open to the public, with many works for sale. Gallery Hours will be announced.

Pat Porcynaluk, Associate Chair for Art at SWC, started the collaboration with the Continuing Education Program about 10 years ago as a way for advanced students to continue their work after completing the two Ceramics courses offered by the Art Department. This special showing is an opportunity to catch up on what they have been doing.

The exhibition is divided into 4 categories. Mash represents works, both functional and sculptural, of ceramic artists. Splash features the dripping, splattering, and brushing of the painter's process. Bite refers to the acid biting into a copper or zinc plates of the printmaker's art. And the use of Light showcases works of photographers and artists who draw.

"We are excited to bring many of the CE artists back together. This exhibit is a reunion of sorts for many who continue on to work on their own or create pieces featured in other exhibits. Many of these folks have not seen each other for several semesters. We are glad to feature them in this special show." says Cynthia Millis, Assistant Chair for Art, HCCSW.
