| WELLS, WIGGINS WIN INTERNATION TELLY AWARD
Stafford– Houston Community College Southwest employees Don Wells and Bruce Wiggins have each won a bronze Telly Award for excellence in video production for 2006.
The international Telly Awards recognize outstanding local, regional, and cable TV commercials and programs, as well as the finest video and film productions. Winners and finalists represent the best work of the most respected advertising agencies, production companies, television stations, cable operators, and corporate video departments in the world. With a 27 year history of recognizing creative excellence and more than 12,000 entries annually, the Telly Awards is a widely known and highly respected international competition.
Wells and Wiggins, staff members of the Southwest College Telecommunications and Instructional Computing Support division, created their award-winning work for Stafford METV, the municipal/educational cable channel for the City of Stafford. HCC Southwest houses the METV studio and is under contract with Stafford to operate the cable channel for the city.
Wells, production manager of the studio, was honored for "Literacy Changes Lives," which discusses the importance of literacy and the work done by the Literacy Council of Fort Bend County. Wiggins, HCC student and part-time METV Media Videographer, won his bronze award for the documentary “Hurricane Rita”, which describes his family’s experience during their evacuation from Rita, only to find that the hurricane altered course and struck where they had gone to escape the storm. He produced the work during his final year as a student in HCC’s Broadcast Technology program.
