| HCC SOUTHWEST DRAMA DEPARTMENT PRESENTS
FOOLS
The HCC Southwest College Fine Arts Department will present Neil
Simon’s comic fable Fools Wednesday, February 22 thru Saturday,
February 25 at 8:00 p.m., and then Sunday, February 26 at 4:00 p.m.
in the Annex Theatre, 13645 Murphy Road, Suite 250, Stafford.
Directed by John Corley, Fools spins a traditional Russian folk
tale about a village of idiots with Neil Simon's most outrageous
characters and distinctive brand of contemporary wit and hilarity.
The play is set in Kulyenshikov, a remote Ukrainian village that,
from all appearances, is idyllic. However, the tragedy of the villagers'
lives is that they've all been cursed with chronic stupidity for
200 years. Out of desperation, they hire Leon Tolchinsky, an ecstatic
schoolteacher, to break the curse. What they don't tell Leon is
that if he fails in his efforts he, too, will become stupid. And
he has just 24 hours to put an end to the curse.
Ticket prices are $7.00 for general admission and $5.00 for students,
faculty, and staff.
The students involved in the production are Mohammed Aziz, Steve
Balthaser, Eileen Dyer, Brooke Henderson, Robert Jacobs, Jani Madwani,
Robin Maly, Akanna Osuji, Larin Pascal, Chris Pinili, Audrey Rose,
and Crystal Smith. This production is HCC Southwest’s entry
into the Texas Community College Speech and Theater Association’s
Annual Play Festival, held this year at Tarleton State University
in Stephenville, Texas.
Preceding Fools on Thursday, February 25, the Southwest College
Faculty Art Exhibition will have their gallery reception beginning
at 6:00 p.m. in the Annex Gallery. The opening is free and open
to the public.
