HCCSW ART DEPARTMENT PRESENTS SOUTHWEST COLLEGE ART FACULTY EXHIBITION

The HCC Southwest Fine Arts, Speech, and Digital Communication Department opens its Southwest College Faculty Art Exhibition with a reception Thursday, February 23 from 6:00 pm to 8:00 pm. The reception and exhibit will be held in the Annex Gallery located at 13645 Murphy Road, Suite 250, Stafford, Texas, closing March 23 at 9 p.m. The event is free and open to the public.

Exhibits will include paintings, drawings, photographs, digital art, sculpture, ceramics, prints, and a variety of mixed media works by twenty-three professors in the Art and Digital Communication Departments of Southwest College. Included in this collaboration are Joyce Olewe, Pim Ormrod, Patricia Porcynaluk, and Margo Reece who split their duties between academic and workforce programs. Martonette Borromeo and Donna Kleszcz split their teaching responsibilities amongst several of the Colleges.

Joining the exhibit as guest artists will be Yousef Balat and Joan Laughlin who taught with Southwest College in the fall. Carol Hebert, Jim N. Hill teach in area secondary schools while Bryan Bauhs, Gwendolyn Plunkett, Walter Wagner, Yi-Chi Wang, Lotus Witt, and Steven Potter share their talents with other area colleges and universities. Jeffery Dernbach, Harold Scott, and Sharon Hendry, are instructors with the Digital Communication Department. Gerald Thorp has also designed sets for the High School for the Visual and Performing Arts in Houston. Also displaying their works are two new artist instructors: HCC Southwest, UH graduate, and veteran HISD teacher Valerie Milo and recent UH graduate Veronica Keyes.

Cynthia Millis, exhibiting artist and assistant chair describes the exhibit. “We are very proud of these artists and their work. They provide inspiration to this new generation of artists each day by sharing their own processes with each student. Our exhibit will be intriguing for all in the college and local communities.”
