Note from Don Wells:
Hi, everyone. Here's my report on the recent meeting:
The Star Squad meeting was held Thursday, June 8th in room N111 at the Scarcella building.
Members present: Jack Villacis, president; Brandy O'Bannion. Non-voting members present: Don Wells, sponsor; Roland Fields, Dr. Al Allong.
President Jack Villacis opened the meeting with introductions, and then called for reports and discussion.
Dr. Allong asked the members what they, as students, most wanted to learn about astronomy, and there was some discussion.
Don Wells reported that he was awaiting a sample t-shirt from Aramark before forwarding the quote for the shirts to Derrick Small for purchase. The proposed Star Squad night at the George Observatory was discussed. The tentative date was set for September 29th. The membership should contact the president as soon as possible to confirm their interest. Don agreed to check with the folks at the George to see if a separate night could be arranged for Dr. Allong's astronomy classes. Don also announced that the first star party of the Summer was scheduled for Monday, June 19th in the Photon Collection Area located near the Southeast corner of the Scarcella building.
Roland Fields reported that two new telescopes had arrived: a Meade 10" Schmidt-Newtonian scope and a Celestron 14" Schmidt-Cassegrain. He went on to describe all the rest of the equipment available to students: an 8" dobsonian scope, a new Meade CCD camera, the SBIG research camera, the Meade 12" Schmidt-Cassegrain, two solar telescopes, solar binoculars, a weather station and remote telescope time in New Mexico. Roland went on to discuss his plans for the future and his hope that more Star Squad members could help out with the star parties as Maria Lopez recently did.
Jack Villacis reported on the proposed Star Squad website. After discussion, the members agreed on the following features/sections for the website: frequently asked questions, the club mission statement, photos of members, events and equipment, activity calendar, "astronomy timeline" discussing people and discoveries in astronomy throughout history, a link to a "comments" email address, links to other astronomy sites and astronomy quotes.
The Star Squad next meeting will be on July 7th, 2006. Don Wells will try to arrange to use the conference room (N111) again.

Cool News!
Hi, everyone.
I'd like to take this opportunity to congratulate your Star Squad
President Karen Llorens for her first asteroid discovery!
The asteroid's temporary designation is 2005
WX54. Images of this object were taken at the George Observatory
using Fort Bend Astronomy Club's 18" telescope.
The FBAC Asteroid Seach Team members who co-discovered
2005 WX54 are Max Eastman and myself.
Way to go, Karen!
