To continue to receive financial aid at Houston Community College
System - Southwest, student must meet certain standards for satisfactory
academic progress.
- Must successfully complete 75% of all attempted courses.
- Must have at least a 1.5 cumulative GPA for Federal Pell Grant and
a 2.0 term and cumulative GPA for Federal Student Loan.
- Must earn a degree or certificate within in time and a half of the
published degree completion requirements (For example, a 60 credit program
allows a student to attempt up to 90 credits) .

Financial Aid Probation and Suspension
In the event that a student fails to meet HCCS Standards for Satisfactory
Academic Progress in a particular semester, the student will be placed
on Financial Aid Probation. A student on probation may receive financial
aid with certain conditions for the next semester of enrollment, at the
end of that semester, the student must have completed the designated number
of credits, and have a sufficient cumulative grade point average. A student
who has not completed the designated number of credits or maintained a
sufficient cumulative grade point average by the end of the probationary
semester will be suspended from the receipt of further financial aid and
be required to complete at least 6 credit hours without financial assistance.

Appeal of Financial Aid Probation
Students placed on Financial Aid Probation may appeal in writing, normally
within 30 days of notification, directly to the Financial Aid Program Coordinator
indicating:
- the circumstances that caused you to fail to make satisfactory academic
progress and the reason for the basis of this appeal.
- describe the actions taken to prevent future recurrance of the
lack of satisfactory academic progress.
- list and describe other pretinent data, which may have an
impact on your Financial Aid being reinstated.
The Coordinator will review and notify the student, in writing, of the
decision. A student wishing to appeal the Coordinator's decision may
do so in writing, to the Assistant Dean of Student Enrollment. Appeals
will not be accepted for suspensions.

Conditions of Reinstatement
Students must complete the appropriate number of credits at the conclusion
of the designated academic semester to be reinstated. At that time, the
student must notify the Financial Aid Program Coordinator, in writing,
that the conditions of reinstatement are believed to have been met. The
student will observe all normal application procedures and deadlines for
financial aid consideration. The student will be notified, in writing,
whether or not reinstatement has taken place. |
