Description of the Children’s Homework Enrichment Program (CHERP)

The Children’s Homework Enrichment Program (CHERP) is an award-winning tutorial program whose mission is to provide grade appropriate educational activities and resources to children of parents attending classes at HCCS Stafford in the evenings. Children between the ages of 5 and 12 are asked to bring their homework each night that they are in care. Tutors make sure the children complete the homework and will go over the assignments, checking for accuracy. The tutors also provide TAKS reinforcement activities, arts and crafts projects, educational software, and the occasional movie night.

TO QUALIFY, THE PARENT MUST BE
Attending evening classes, Monday - Thursday at the Stafford campus.
Seeking an Associate’s Degree or a certificate from Houston Community College.
Eligible for Pell Grant, TANF, or Lone Star.
Planning to enroll in at least 6 hours of course work and maintain a “C” average.
