Spring 2006 issue of diginetXpress

Students in the Writing for the Web course for Spring 2006 faced a challenge right away. They listened to a presentation of the epilogue of Sam Harris' bestselling book "The End of Faith: Religion, Terror, and the Future of Reason." The intention behind the exercise was to help the writers develop the skill of maintaining and open mind even when the subject is highly volatile. Some of the writers had a tough time staying objective, but others rose to the challenge very well. Some of the copy in this issue grew out of that exercise.

Other story and editorial ideas came from viewing the 2005 movie "Good Night, and Good Luck." The movie is a criticism of Joseph McCarthy and his so-called "red witch hunts" of the 1950s. More importantly it takes a hard look at the behavior of the media today in light of attempts by government to manipulate all forms of media. Some of the stories and editorials are outcroppings of that experience.

This semester diginetXpress is privileged to publish two essays from guest writers. These pieces come from the Distance Education course in Art Appreciation, taught by June Woest. Ms. Woest says that she has her students view NetART and use it for inspiration for their writing about art in general. We at diginetXpress appreciate these contributions.

The stories and editorials presented here are the work of these student writers.
