HCC
Students Assist with National
Defense Drill
-
On Saturday January 26th HCC-Southwest College students volunteered to
assist the United States military with a national defense drill to
prepare for possible major disasters in Texas. The Texas Medical
Rangers, a unit of the Texas National Guard, utilized the 100+
volunteers to simulate a number of potential disaster scenarios and
assess how their members responded to each individual case.
Each
volunteer was handed a script for their role as a disaster victim, and
then interacted with medics and nurses who then responded with the
appropriate medical protocol. To add to the HCC-SW connection, two HCC-SW
Psychology professors, Dr. Kristin Anderson and Dr. Robert Morecook, are
both members of the Texas Medical Rangers and were both in attendance at
the training.
This
event was in part a project of the HCC-SW Student Life Office and the
HCC-SW Service Learning Program. For more information about upcoming
community service events please contact the HCC-SW Service Learning
Program at (713) 718-8611 or e-mail to swc.slp@hccs.edu.
