SMART JOB
The State of Texas' Smart Jobs program provides training grants to businesses in order to create new high-skill, high-wage jobs for Texans. Smart Jobs is designed to allow businesses to customize training to meet their exact needs.
The state matches an employer's eligible training expense at a 50/50 ratio. In-kind contributions and/or training wages are considered in this match.
Jobs eligible for training funds must meet the definitions for "demand occupations" and "family wage jobs." A demand occupation is defined as an occupation in which there is or will be a positive growth-to-replacement ratio within the next 12 to 14 months according to the available sources of labor market information. A family wage job is defined as a job which offers wages greater than or equal to the state average weekly wage, benefits, a reasonable opportunity for continued skill development and career path advancement, and the possibility of long-term job security.
