-Lee Choul - Kyu Exhibition-

The Lee Choul-Kyu Exhibition was held at HCC-SW’s Annex Gallery from August 23 through September 13, 2002.  Lee Choul-Kyu is an accomplished painter and art professor at Yewon University in South Korea.  His work has been exhibited throughout Korea in numerous group exhibitions and nine solo exhibitions.  Houston Community College Southwest and co-sponsor, Won Buddhism of Houston presented Lee Choul-Kyu’s debut exhibition in the United States.

The exhibition featured Lee Choul-Kyu’s “Once upon a time…” series.  In each of the sixteen paintings, Lee Choul-Kyu incorporates two complimentary images.   An India ink rendering of nature is combined with a colorful painting incorporating symbols of nature.  According to Lee Choul-Kyu, the intent is to express the harmony of nature and human beings, and the harmony of the past and present.

According to Pat Porcynaluk, Assistant Chair of the Fine Arts Department, “The Annex gallery opened in April of 2001 and has featured the work of faculty and student artists at HCC.  This year we are expanding our exhibition schedule in order to feature artists outside our academic community.  We are excited about introducing our students to the diverse works of contemporary artists and invite the community to visit us and view our exhibitions.”

The gallery reception for the Lee Choul-Kyu Exhibition was held Wednesday, August 28 from 6:00-8:00 p.m. and was free to the public.  The Annex Gallery is located at 13645 Murphy Road, Suite 250, Stafford.  For more information call (713) 718-6370 or Pat Porcynaluk at (713) 718-7700.
