Menil Project Requirements

Due Date: See your revised calendar/schedule for due date. I do not accept these projects late.

This project is a response to your visit of the Menil Museum in Houston. It is hopeful that you will take the time to visit as much of the work on view at the museum as you possibly can and to be leisurely in your visit and enjoy. However, certain specified exhibitions are identified as required for you to see and it is these exhibitions which are to be addressed in your response.

Remember to use your museum etiquette while visiting the museum: Hands off all art works. Stand far enough back from the work so as not to prompt the guards to be nervous that your might try to touch the work. Keep in mind that other people are there to enjoy the art too, so keep your voices low and try not to obstruct others in your quest for information.

At the museum, take good, readable notes that you can read when you get home. I count off for misspelling. Do not take your book with you. If you need any information from the book, make sketches, take notes or photo copy images to take with you. Take your camera with you or go with another classmate who has one. You will be able to take pictures in the sculpture garden. Enjoy!

¨     Must have a cover page. Please, no binders or folders. Just staple together in to left hand corner with your cover page on top.

¨     Must be typed. Size 12 font.

¨     Please include all questions.

¨     Set your answers apart from the question but do not underline the answer.

¨     Underline the titles of the art work as you would the title of a book.

¨     Answers should be in the form of complete sentences.

¨     In most cases information may be obtained from either looking at the work and/or reading the information card provided on the wall near the work.

¨     Please use your own words rather than copying the information from the card.

¨     Some questions may require research in your book or elsewhere. You must document sources of information used if other than information in the museum.

¨     Photos not allowed in museum.

¨     Document your visit with a photograph of yourself near one of the sculptures on the grounds outside. Attach this to your project.
