ETWR 2301 Technical Writing

Course Description: Study of the principles, techniques, and skills needed for college level scientific, technical, and business writing. (Formerly TECC 2322 and ENGL 2314).
Learning Outcomes: Utilize standard research procedures. Organize information in a relevant and logical manner for an intended audience. Organize research results to prepare various documents for reporting purposes. Research sufficient information for an effective and professional technical manual. Organize and select information to give sufficient depth to a written document. Include graphic presentation of data in a technical manual. Use teamwork skills to peer review assignments and critique written and/or oral presentations. Demonstrate proficiency in correct use of English grammar and speech. Practice organizing and creating specialize technical documents. Learn to plan, prepare and edit technical manuals for any industrial, technical, or business environment. Learn to prepare clear procedures and detailed descriptions and explanations for target audience. Learn visual awareness and the effective use of graphics to enhance written materials. Develop/improve general writing and editing skills. Become aware of the resources available to the writer in the community including libraries, professional organizations, experienced professionals, etc. Become aware of the careers in communications/writing, particularly in the preparation of procedures and manuals.

ENGL 1301 and ETWR 1371, or Departmental Approval
