Lab
Aide
|
My name
is Julie Caplan. I have been a Lab Aide for almost two years and find
it a very enriching place to work. The best part about being in the lab
is the way I am able to aid the students. The programs that are available
in the lab help the student in many different ways. I most enjoy working
with the PLATO program and also Course Compass. Plato allows the students
the extra push they might need in whatever subject they are studying.
Course Compass allows students to work along with their text as well as
learn more about the various uses of the Internet (i.e.: research for
papers).
I received my Associate in Science degree this past May, but I have decided to stay here at HCC-SW for at least one more semester before I continue on to University of Houston. My goal is to get my Bachelor of Arts in English and to minor in Education so that I may one day teach. I will hopefully continue on in my education to achieve my Masters Degree. I spend my spare time reading, pet sitting, and spending time with my family. I read everything from Harry Potter to Steven King. To me, there is nothing better than stretching the mind- which I can do when I'm helping a student in the lab. The students have taught me as well, in the use of the computer. I hope to see you all in the lab and it will be my pleasure to help in any way possible |

I am a full time mommy to my son Anthony, who is now 5 years old. I am going to school @ hccs to get my degree in nursing and hoping to have a better life for my son. Besides working @ the LAC, I also work @ the college bookstore to help my financials and my son's bad habits of "I want everything." I am now working towards buying my first townhome, but I am still in the process of looking and hopefully, I will be somewhat settled in July of 2005. I do volunteer work @ Texas Children's Hospital and M.D. Anderson cancer center. As the year is coming around, I hope that my New Year (Chinese New Year-Feb. 9) will be a successful one and that I will have lots of GOOD LUCK in my goals and PROSPERITY in health throughout the year for my son and I. |

I am currently taking classes at HCCS. I work as a lab aid at Stafford and Alief Campuses along with other friendly lab aids and a nice supervisor. Before taking this job, I have taken classes in computer field. Thus, I familiarize much with computer hardwares and softwares. Upon taking this job, I encounter some new computer applications such as CourseCompass and Web CT. These web applications are useful to both instructors and students. The instructors and their students communicate with one another at ease through email, chat, and discussion board. Moreover, the students can find lessons and homeworks which are always available online. The instructors can set up quizzes and tests at specific time frame. Both the instructors and the students enjoy the flexibility that the softwares offer. Above all, the students benefit the most. Besides learning from their instructors and materials, they have a chance to interact with computer applications and enhance their computer skills. To conclude, I have some knowledge about the computer hardwares and softwares. I am available at computer labs and willingly to help. In the process of interacting with you, the students, I hope that we learn new things from one another and improve to a better level. | |
