Study Skills - Test Taking Tips

 

Answer True or False to the following questions to assess your test taking skills. Be honest with yourself to arrive at a valid assessment of your current test taking skills. Print the completed assessment and place in your folder.

 

____1. I get plenty of sleep the night before an exam.

____2. I arrive five to ten minutes early on exam day.

____3. I check beforehand to determine if the test will be essay or multiple choice.

____4. I approach tests with a positive attitude: I expect to do well.

____5. I begin to study at least a week or more before the exam date.

____6. During the test, I am able to focus on the material on the test and tune out external and internal distractions.

____7. I always carefully read the test directions.

____8. When I am responding to a passage, I read the passage first and then I read the questions.

90-100 = Superior College Work

80-89 = Above Average College Work

70-79 = Average College Work

60-69 = Below College Average/work needs improvement

0-59 = Far below college work/major improvement needed
